The Point Reyes Ship Wreck in Inverness

The Point Reyes shipwreck is an abandoned boat in the town of Inverness just out side of Point Reyes Station. The boat is on a piece of land behind the Inverness Market.  This old abandoned boat is on the way to the Point Reyes Lighthouse so you have to stop and see it.

The family and I were out here visiting the sites a couple weeks prior to these images I captured and that gave me the idea to get this boat at sunrise.  It began at 5 am to get out here in time so I could capture the images I wanted before actual sunrise when I arrived it was completely black no glow from the sun at all and I had a head lamp on so I could carry my gear and get everything set up. By this time I could see the faint glow on the horizon and it was crystal clear out not a cloud in the sky and cold about 35 degrees. I first set up the tripod and took a few shots and the boat was just a silhouette I couldn’t see the boat at all. I cranked up the ISO and it made some difference but it wasn’t what I wanted. I remembered my headlamp!! So I set the exposure to manual and opened the shutter and shined my headlamp on the boat so I could illuminate it enough to show up in my image. It took a few tries on the exposure and this is what I got!! That little headlamp worked perfect thanks babe for the Christmas present!

By this time the sun was coming up into the sky and I have taken some more pictures and walked around trying to find the composition I wanted it was beginning to get really hazy and the sky was getting blown out from the sun. So I captured this image of the ice plant and boat that gives me everything I love in a image foreground and depth. It was a great morning and a very awesome sunrise and I get to share it with all of you!
